Historically, metal industry has played a critical and major role in not only driving industrialization but also in achieving economic progress. History has shown that nations with sound metal industries have always benefitted from a first-mover advantage. This was proved at the start of the twentieth century when the economies of nations were driven by industrialization.

Among materials, steel is the most recycled material in the world, with almost all the amount of steel available across the world including India recycled. Every tonne of steel scrap that is recycled is said to save 1.1 tonnes of iron ore, 630 kg of cooking coal, and 55 kg of limestone, and not to forget, ensures considerable savings in specific energy consumption.

Inflation is a raging topic today across the world. Not a day passes without dire warnings of surging inflation. Last year, it was reported that the U.S. Consumer Price Index grew 6.8% year-on-year while the Eurozone inflation rose to a record 4.9%.

Metal recycling sector is thriving and growing in India. However, it is not well-organized in comparison with the international market. Large volumes of unaccountable and non-segregated scrap are still inadequately used and most of the sector is still highly unorganized.

Metal scrap is a much-misunderstood word. Many have the wrong notion that it is a worthless piece of metal junk whose utility value is negligible and is best discarded into the trash can.
